Sedges are very similar to grassy weeds and just as difficult to get rid of. We separate them because often they are treated differently than grassy weeds. Nutsedge is identifiable by its triangular shaped stem. They tend to grow in poorly drained areas and indicate excess moisture in the ground. What makes them exceptionally difficult are the underground tubers they grow. These are very resilient and can last years. Pulling nutsedge by hand does no good if these tubers aren’t removed.
